LITE ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES ANNOUNCES NEW PARTNER IN SWEDEN
February 4, 2016 – Vancouver, British Columbia. LITE ACCESS TECHNOLOGIES INC. (the “Company”) (CSE: LTE, Pink Sheets: LTCCF) is pleased to announce a new partnership with its first certified European installation and sales Partner, headquartered in the Vansbro Municipality in central Sweden, to cover the Swedish telecommunications market for the sale and installation of Lite Access microduct solutions.
Canoma AB, is a full-service telecom integration consultant specializing in Fibre to the Home (FTTH) and Fibre to the Business (FTTB), with over 15,000 FTTX connections successfully completed, an experienced team and an enviable track record of producing excellent work.
Mike Plotnikoff, CTO of Lite Access, states, “We are exceptionally pleased to have completed this new partnership arrangement with the professionals at Canoma, and look forward to working with them on the multitude of FTTH projects that are currently being planned in Sweden. Importantly, this marks the first European partnership for our growing company, and we will continue to diligently expand the Lite Access footprint in Europe by joining forces with additional high quality partners like Canoma.”
Information on the Swedish FTTH market
The number of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers in the European region is set to more than double during the next five years as the pace of rollout picks up, according to a new report compiled for the FTTH Council Europe.
Sweden has a vast number of installed FTTH connections both in rural and suburban areas. There are estimated to be more than 1000 community broadband networks in Sweden, either under construction, completed or planning to expand, according to the Swedish Broadband Forum. The Swedish Government has decided that more than 90 % of the Swedish population are to be fibre connected, with a minimum capacity of 100 mbps, by 2020.
The ‘fibre to the village’ concept, which began around six years ago, is one of the main factors behind the dramatic increase in the number of community-owned fibre networks in Sweden. Started by the Swedish Urban Network Association (SSNf) together with the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF), the project encourages community groups to ‘take up a spade’ and dig their own fibre networks.
Stokab, Stockholm’s city-owned network company, is the owner of one of the largest dark fiber city networks in Europe. Stokab is also making new efforts in the area of intelligent network design to cut construction costs and eliminate the need to dig up streets and sidewalks to connect building properties one by one.
Some of the biggest scale projects are now built in Stockholm, where housing corporations use micro duct to blow cable and fiber to connect tenants. In Stockholm, housing corporations will connect more than 100,000 apartments over the coming years forming the world’s largest Open Fiber To The Home network.
